How To Infuse Moisture Into Dry Brittle Hair

My daughter's hair was in 2 strand twists for a few weeks and was rather dry. I tried something different with her hair to help infuse moisture and it worked! If your Hair is very dry and brittle or seeking more moisture for your hair this treatment is for you. I only used the Le'Moka and Koko Du Lait for moisture and sealed the moisture in with the Tukka Natural Hair Treatment.

Here is what I did:

You will use your fingers and not a comb for this moisturizing treatment. If your hair is very dry and brittle spritz the hair with water first.

1. Scoop some Le'Moka out of the jar (the amount needed to saturate your hair) and place in a separate container.

2. Pour 1 to 2 tablespoons of honey into the Le' Moka and thoroughly mix.

3. Apply Le'Moka mix throughout your hair, detangle your hair using fingers, cover your hair with a plastic cap, let the Le'Moka sit for 30 minutes to an hour then rinse. Your hair should be soft to the touch.

4. Distribute the KoKo Du Lait Moisturizing Leave In Detangler throughout your hair ,

5. Seal the the moisture in using the Tukka Natural Hair Treatment (oil or butter of choice) then style.

Note:

I also use the Koko Du Lait as a quick cleansing conditioner wash since it is light and helps our hair retain moisture when needed.

How to Steam Your Hair Without a Steamer

Infuse your hair with moisture without breaking the bank. Save your money ladies! This hair steaming method is very pleasing. All you will need is a hooded hair drying and a few household tools lying around the house. Why steam your hair? The hair steaming method is to help infuse extra moisture that is needed for dry hair.

What you will need:
2 face cloths
A bowl full of hot water (not boiling)
2 plastic caps or plastic bags
A hooded/bonnet dryer (optional)

1. Prepare your hair first by washing your hair with a sulfate free shampoo such as Cha’Cha Ultra Moisturizing Sulfate free Shampoo. Leave in for 3 minutes to allow the shampoo to do its job. Rinse hair thoroughly. Applying an intensive deep conditioner with all natural ingredients that strengthens, moisturizes and lubricates the hair such as Le’Moka Conditioning Hair Mask.

2. Soak both face cloths in the hot water. Wring some of the water out of the first face cloth. The cloth should be wet but not soaking. Place the cloth over your hair and immediately cover with one of the plastic caps/plastic bags.

3. Wring the second face cloth and apply this over the plastic bag already on your head and immediately apply the plastic bag/cap.

4. Ensure that the last plastic bag is tied securely with a hair scarf or sweat band around the hairline to prevent water dripping down your neck. Both bags should be spacious enough to allow the steam to form.

5. Allow hair to steam for 20 to 30 minutes. Sit under a hooded dryer for deeper penetration.
Part hair into four sections.

Shampoo each section first with a clarifying shampoo to remove product residue. ( Scalp only)

Shampoo sectioned hair a second time with a moisturizing sulfate free shampoo such as Cha’ Cha Ultra Moisturizing Sulfate Free Condtioner.

Apply a hard protein conditioner to the hair in sections.

Cover with a plastic cap and sit under a dryer for 20 minutes or follow product instructions. Do not comb the product through the hair.

Remove plastic cap and rinse out the product gently for at least 5 minutes. Shampoo once with the moisturizing shampoo or conditioner. (This will remove any protein residue that remains in the hair)

Apply a deep moisturizing conditioner such as Le’Moka Conditioning Hair Mask to the hair. Cover with a plastic cap and sit 20 to 45 minutes or apply a steam cap and sit for 15 to 20 minutes.

Apply leave-in conditioner such as KoKo du lait Daily Leave-in Detangler and oil of choice and style hair.

Transitioning 101: Going from relaxed to natural hair

Are you considering growing out your relaxed hair and do not know where to begin?
Here are a list of six things you must know before you begin transitioning into your natural hair texture.

1. What does transitioning mean?

Transitioning is the process of transitioning from chemically treated hair (relaxed, texturized, etc.) to your “natural” hair texture or chemically free hair (color treated).

2. What is a "Big Chop"?

The “Big Chop” is the process in which you decide to cut off all of your relaxed hair or relaxed ends if you are transitioning. When you decide to do the big chop you make the decision to embrace your natural hair texture and begin growing healthy hair.

3. What if I am not ready to “Big Chop”. What are my options?

You can begin trimming away the relaxed ends while your hair grows to your desired length.

4. What should I expect while I transition?

As your new growth starts to grow in, this will make your hair seem thicker and fuller, but your relaxed ends will weaker and thinner which is very common. There are many styling options and techniques you can use to minimize its appearance.

You may experience more breakage since you are working with two different textures, the stronger new growth versus the weaker relaxed length of hair. These two textures meet the “demarcation line” where breakage is most likely to occur. Protein treatments for your hair is the best way to strengthen the “demarcation line” and to cease any breakage.

You hair will be dryer than usual due to the scalps natural oils having a difficult time traveling down your curly or coily hair texture. You can combat dry hair, improve your hair moisture balance and enjoy ease of combing by using the Tukka Naturals Deluxe Hair Kit.

For those who are not use to working with their natural hair texture you may find it more difficult to work with at first. With time, patience, and the desire to learn how to maintain your natural hair texture and using the right products, your natural hair growth journey will get easy. By using the Tukka Naturals Product Line you will take the stress out of maintaining your natural hair texture and can focus more on healthy hair growth.

5. What are my hairstyling options while transitioning?

There are many styling options to choose from such as mini twists, twist outs, box braid, braid outs, bantu knots, bantu knot outs, blow outs, wash n’ go’s and more!

6. How long will it take to transition to completely natural hair?

It depends on what your natural hair growth goal is and when you are ready to “Big Chop”. For instance, will you be satisfied with 3 inches of natural hair growth or are you aiming for 12 inches of hair growth. This process can take months or years depending on your monthly hair growth rate and genetics. The average person hair growth rate is at ½ inch a month. From there you can do the math.

Healthy Hair Care Tips For Children With Curly And Afro Textured Hair

Hair care for textured hair can be a frustrating experience between parent and child if not done using proper techniques, hair care products and tools. Building a simple hair care regimen is the key to healthy hair growth. Learning how to better care for curly and afro textured hair can be a fun and instill confidence in our children by helping them develop their own hair care regimens as they grow.

Hair Care Products: Styling Methods

Shampoos

Shampoo is not recommended for young children birth to age 5. Very young children with curly and afro textured hair can be cleansed with conditioners since their hair is very fine, fragile, prone to dryness and breakage. Seek a mild sulfate-free conditioning shampoo for very active young children or if their hair is heavily soiled from sand, swimming and food. Many parents opt in for no-tears shampoos since they are gentle on the eyes but they can can be very drying especially if they have no moisturizing ingredients. Look for mild moisturizing sulfate-free shampoos which are more gentle on the hair.

Conditioners

Always seeking moisturizing formulas created for dry, brittle, and damaged hair. The best conditions to use are deep conditions with moisturizing benefits and oils for lubrication. Avoid rinse out conditioners since they only coat the hair without any real penetrating moisturizing benefits. Remember curly and afro textured hair is prone to dryness and dry hair thrive on moisture.

Moisturizers, Oils and Butters

Moisturizers are crucial in caring for curly and afro textured hair since it is prone to dryness. Lubricating oils and butters help reduce friction, frizz, and help with locking moisture in the hair hair shaft. Seek moisturizers with water as the primary ingredient. Avoid products that contain mineral oils and petroleum since they tend to act like saran wrap by locking moisture out. Seek moisturizing products such as leave in conditioners with natural oils, humectants, and hair strengthening agents. Hair styling aids, oils and butters should be created with all natural ingredients for optimum healthy hair growth.

Hair Tools

The best tools to use for curly and afro textured hair is your fingers, wide tooth comb and a rat tail comb for parting the hair into sections. That is it!

Why use your fingers for styling hair? Your fingers are used primarily for detangling since you are able to easily feel for knots, tangles and gently remove them with ease without ripping through them with a comb. The wide tooth comb should be the last tool you use to smooth out the hair for styling. A small fine brush can be use to smooth out the hair line. Avoid brushing through the hair since this can lead to damage and breakage.

Children’s Hair Cleansing Method:

Detangle

Rinse

Shampoo (conditioner wash depending on state of hair)

Deep Condition

Dry

Leave-In Moisturizer/Detangler

Seal with oil or butter

Style

Detangling:

Textured hair should be detangled with fingers only! Avoid using combs or brushing when detangling hair. When detangling the hair should be parted into four or more sections using fingers. Don’t worry about straight and even parts when doing doing this method. The primary purpose of finger detangling first is to feel for and remove any large knots and tangles. Thoroughly detangling the hair is unnecessary until the moisturizing and detangling process.

Shampoo:

All shampoos used in childrens hair should always be sulfate-free. Moisturizing and conditioning sulfate-free shampoos are the best shampoo for textured hair. If you have to use non conditioning sulfate-free shampoo try adding a little olive or coconut oil to the shampoo to provide more lubrication. Since curly and afro textured hair have the tendency to be very dry a conditioner wash (co-wash) is optional. If you choose to co-wash your hair always remove product build-up dirt and grime with a moisturizing sulfate-free shampoo or natural cleanser.

Conditioning:

A quality deep conditioner is the best product to use for maintaining moisture in dry curly and afro textured hair. Seek ingredients rich in lubricating oils or butters, natural moisture driven ingredients and proteins that aids in hydration, elasticity, manageability and restructuring of the hair.

Drying Hair:

Excess water should be be absorbed with a micro-fiber towel or T-Shirt only! Using a cotton towel should be avoided since it causes friction to the hair and potential damage over a period of time.

Leave-In Moisturizer/ Detangler:

A leave-in moisturizer/detangler adds additional moisture to the hair while providing ease of detangling at the same time. Making detangling process less painless when styling textured children’s hair. Detangling the hair should be done in small sections at a time starting with the fingers first then using a wide tooth comb followed by an optional denman detangling brush for smoothing.

Seal with Oil or Butter:

Always seal the hair with an oil , butter, or oil/butter based styling aid. Why seal the hair? Sealing the hair prolongs the moisture level in the hair over time while providing lubrication and preventing hard, dry, and frizzy hair.

Styling:

Avoid tight ponytail, braids, flat twists, and buns. These styles are very stylish on the hair but can also be very damaging to the hair, scalp, and thinning edges around the hairline over time. Aim for loosely styled ponytails, braids and buns by testing wiggle movement or asking your child if the braids or ponytails are too tight. Loose hairstyles that evolves less tension to the hairline and scalp prolongs the overall health of textured hair.

Visit TukkaNaturals.com for best hair care products to jump start your childs’ haircare regimen.

Are you experiencing breakage after 2 months of hair growth?

This article will help you get started with your natural hair journey giving you tips and tricks on how to make your transition to your natural hair less painful.

How to care for curly and afro textured hair:

First and foremost curly and afro textured hair needs moisture. The best way to get it is to hydrate your hair with water often and to seek water based mineral oil and petroleum free styling products made with moisturizing ingredients.

Here a few simple steps to help you get started.

1. Cleanse hair 1 to 2 times a week with with a moisturizing sulfate free shampoo or cleansing conditioner to remove dirt, environmental debris and product build up. Cha Cha Ultra Moisturizing Sulfate Free Shampoo is highly recommended since it made with all natural ingredients, cleanses the hair while replenishing moisture and does not remove the natural oils from your hair. This means soft, moisturized hair and no more dry, crunchy hair after cleansing.

2. After cleansing the hair the next step is to apply an all natural moisture replenishing deep conditioner weekly. Twice a week for very dry, brittle or damaged hair. Deep conditioning the hair with an actual deep conditioner is vital in improving the moisture content of curly or afro texture hair.

Avoid using rinse off conditioners as deep conditioners since rinse off conditioners only coat the hair while deep conditioners have ingredients that will penetrate it.

What are rinse off conditioners? Rinse off conditioners are applied to the hair then rinsed out immediately right after leaving hard, dry, frizzy hair a few hours later. Rinse off conditioners temporarily gives the appearance of healthy hair without improving your hair’s current condition.

A good deep conditioner such as Le’Moka Conditioning Hair Mask contains natural ingredients which penetrates the hair shaft to strengthen your hair while moisturizing and lubricating the hair and scalp.

3. After deep conditioning the hair apply a leave-in conditioner with the ability to aid in detangling the hair such as KoKo du Lait Daily Leave-In Detangler. Choose a good lotion leave-in conditioner over a liquid leave-in conditioner since lotion conditioners moisturize the hair, lubricates it with oils and leaves a light protective film on the hair which helps reduce frizz and frictions while liquid conditions usually just replenishes moisture.

4. Lubricate the hair with an oil based styling aid such our 100% Natural Tukka Natural Hair Treatments which is a rich butter consistancy. Balms, pomades, butters, and help seal the hair cuticles by reducing frizz, friction and preventing moisture loss.

5. Where your hair in styles which prevents your hair from rubbing against your clothing. This is also called protective hair styling. Protecting hair styling is any hairstyle that does not come into constant contact with your shoulders or clothing. Hair that constantly rubs against your shoulder and clothing will begin to thin, split and breakage due to constant friction.
